Florida Assist provides $10,000 as a 0% interest, deferred second mortgage with no monthly payments. Unlike Hometown Heroes, Florida Assist has no occupation restrictions — any income-eligible first-time buyer in Florida can qualify. The loan is repaid only when you sell, refinance, or transfer the property.
The program works with Florida Housing's first mortgage options including FHA, VA, and conventional loans. While $10,000 is less than the Hometown Heroes maximum, Florida Assist is available to buyers who may not work in one of the designated Hometown Heroes occupations. It can be combined with county SHIP funds for additional assistance, though it cannot be stacked with Hometown Heroes — you must choose one or the other.
